Instagram Automation for Skincare Brands: Links, Quiz, No Claims
How D2C skincare and beauty brands in India can send product links by DM, run a routine quiz with buttons and keep automated replies free of medical claims.
Skincare is one of the busiest categories on Indian Instagram. A D2C brand posts a texture shot of its niacinamide serum or a “my 3-step monsoon routine” reel, and the comments roll in: “link?”, “oily skin ke liye chalega?”, “price kya hai”, “which one for dark spots?”, “COD available?”. Some of those are easy. Some sound easy but are really questions about someone's skin condition, and those need care.
This playbook is for skincare and beauty brands selling online in India. It covers how to use Instagram automation to send product links instantly, run a simple routine quiz inside the DM, and stay well clear of medical claims.
Sort your comments into three buckets
Before building anything, read through a week of comments and DMs. They fall into:
- Shopping questions — link, price, size, COD, delivery time, offers. Safe to automate fully.
- “Which product for me?” — skin type, concern, routine order. Can be guided by a simple quiz that points to products, with honest wording.
- Skin problems and reactions — “I got breakouts after using this”, “can I use it during pregnancy?”, “will it cure my acne?”. Never automate. These go to a trained person, and often the right answer is “please consult a dermatologist”.
Bucket 1: product links from every reel
This is classic comment-to-DM automation. Give each product reel its own automation, so the vitamin C reel sends the vitamin C product card and the sunscreen reel sends the sunscreen. Add a general “All posts” automation for “link”, “price” and “shop” that sends your bestsellers page. When both could match, the reel's own automation answers, and nobody gets two DMs.
A sample DM for a sunscreen reel:
“Hi! Here's our SPF 50 gel sunscreen 🌞 50 g, lightweight and made for humid weather. Free shipping on prepaid orders, COD also available.”
Product card: Gel Sunscreen SPF 50 · Shop now
Keep the product description to what is on your pack and listing. If your label says “lightweight”, say that. Don't add new claims in the DM that your legal or regulatory team hasn't approved for the product page. For more ecommerce patterns, see Instagram automation for ecommerce.
Bucket 2: a routine quiz with buttons
Buttons in the DM lead to the next message, which means you can build a short quiz with no code. A caption like “Comment ROUTINE and we'll suggest a routine for your skin type” can start it.
Question 1:
“Let's find your routine ✨ How does your skin usually feel by afternoon?”
Buttons: Oily / shiny · Dry / tight · Combination · Sensitive
Question 2 (after “Oily / shiny”):
“Got it. What would you most like to focus on?”
Buttons: Oil control · Uneven tone · Just basics
Result:
“Here's a simple routine many people with oily skin start with: gentle foaming cleanser, our niacinamide serum, gel moisturiser and SPF 50 in the morning. Patch-test any new product first. If you have an ongoing skin condition, please check with a dermatologist before starting.”
Product cards for the four products
Notice the wording: “many people start with”, not “this will fix your skin”. A quiz is a shopping guide, not a diagnosis. Keep it to three questions at most; every extra step loses people.
If you want the quiz result to also collect a phone number for order follow-ups or restock reminders, add a lead-capture step at the end. Numbers are saved with Instagram usernames in your Leads list.
Bucket 3: the words a bot must never say
Cosmetics in India are not medicines, and claiming they treat or cure a condition can get a brand into trouble with regulators and with customers. Keep your automated messages free of:
- “Cures acne”, “removes pigmentation permanently”, “treats eczema”
- “Results in 7 days” or any promised timeline
- “Safe in pregnancy” or “safe for everyone”
- “Dermatologist recommended” unless you can back it exactly as stated
Also watch your keywords. A keyword like “acne” will match a comment like “this gave me acne 😡” and send a cheerful product link to an unhappy customer. Use shopping words (link, price, shop, routine) as triggers, and handle concern words by hand in the shared inbox, where the comment and the DM sit in one thread for your team.
The same applies to AI replies. If you turn on AI Intent to answer from your FAQs, write the FAQs carefully — delivery, returns, ingredients as listed, how to use — and leave anything about skin conditions or reactions out, so those questions come to a person.
Stories, launches and restocks
- Launch stories: “Reply 💧 for early access” with story reply automation sending the launch link.
- Restocks: collect phone numbers from people who ask about an out-of-stock product, and message them when it is back.
- Follow-before-link: useful for giveaway or launch posts; skip it for normal product reels, where you want the sale more than the follow.
Know which reels sell
Track Your Links counts clicks on the links you send in DMs, and Analytics shows message activity across automations. Compare the ROUTINE quiz with plain product reels: you will learn whether your audience prefers to be guided or just wants the link.
