Instagram Giveaway Automation: Rules, Entry DM, No Spam
Run an Instagram giveaway with comment automation: fair rules, an entry confirmation DM, public reply variations, picking a winner and following up afterwards.
A giveaway post can pull in more comments in a day than your normal posts get in a month. That's the good news. The bad news: hundreds of “done ✅” and “entered!” comments with nobody replying looks dead, and a pile of identical bot-like replies looks like spam. Comment automation sits in the middle — every entrant gets confirmation, you keep a clean record, and the post still feels human.
Here's a step-by-step plan for running a giveaway on Instagram with comment automation.
Step 1: Decide what the giveaway is for
“More followers” is the default answer, but it's rarely the best one. Followers who came only for a free hamper often leave once it's over. Pick one real goal:
- Leads: you want phone numbers of people interested in your product (a skincare brand, a coaching institute).
- Launch buzz: you want comments on a new collection reel so it reaches more people.
- Reviews and UGC: you want past customers to share photos.
- Local footfall: a café in Pune or a salon in Jaipur wants people from that city to visit.
The prize should match the goal. A café should give away a meal for two, not an iPhone. A relevant prize attracts people who might actually buy from you.
Step 2: Write clear, fair rules
Put the rules in the caption, short and numbered:
🎁 GIVEAWAY: Win our festive dry-fruit hamper (worth ₹2,500)
1. Follow @yourhandle
2. Comment WIN below
3. Tag one friend who loves mithai (optional)
Ends Sunday 10 PM. Winner announced Monday in stories. Open to India only. Free to enter — no purchase needed.
This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed or run by Instagram.
A few rule tips:
- Free to enter. Don't make a purchase a condition of entry — paid-entry contests start to look like a lottery, which brings legal questions. Keep it simple and free.
- Instagram's promotion guidelines ask you to state that the promotion isn't associated with Instagram, and you're responsible for running it lawfully. Read Meta's current guidelines before you post.
- Don't require multiple tags. “Tag 5 friends” floods the comments with low-quality entries and annoys the people being tagged. One optional tag is plenty.
- Say how the winner is picked (random draw from valid entries) and when.
Step 3: Set up the comment automation
On your giveaway post, create an automation with:
- Trigger: keyword WIN — or “any comment” if you don't ask for a specific word. A keyword is better: it separates entries from people asking questions.
- Public reply: several short variations, so the comment section doesn't look copy-pasted (more below).
- DM: the entry confirmation, and optionally a follow-before-link or phone-number step.
Set it on this specific post. If you also run an “All posts” automation, JaldiDM uses the most specific one, so giveaway comments get the giveaway reply and nobody gets two DMs. Walkthrough: how to set up Instagram DM automation.
Step 4: The entry DM
The DM is where you turn an entrant into a relationship. Keep it warm and give them something now, even if they don't win.
You're in! 🎉 Your entry for the festive hamper is confirmed. Winner announced Monday in our stories — keep an eye out.

Entry ho gayi! 🎁 Winner Monday ko stories mein announce hoga. Tab tak, sab participants ke liye ek chhota sa discount 👇
Want leads? Add a phone-number step: “Share your number so we can contact you if you win.” That's a genuine reason, and the numbers land in your Leads list with their Instagram username. Be honest about what else you'll use it for — if you plan to send offers later, say so. More on doing this right in collecting phone numbers from Instagram.
Step 5: Avoid the spam look
Giveaways attract volume, and volume is where automated replies can look robotic. Some ways to keep it natural:
- Write four or five public reply variations: “You're in! Check DMs 🎁”, “Entry confirmed ✅”, “Good luck! Details in your inbox”, “Done — DM bhej diya 🙌”.
- Don't put links in public replies. Links belong in the DM.
- Reply personally to a few comments yourself — the funny ones, the questions. Automation handles the bulk; you add the warmth.
- Run it on the official API only. Tools that log in with your password and mass-like or mass-comment are what get accounts into trouble. See Instagram DM automation safety.
Step 6: Pick and announce the winner
- Close entries at the time you announced. Pause or delete the automation so late commenters aren't told they're entered.
- Check that the shortlisted winner followed the rules (followed you, commented the keyword).
- Pick randomly and record how you did it — a screen recording of the draw builds trust.
- Announce in stories and DM the winner personally. This message should come from a human, not the automation.
- Ask for delivery details only from the winner, and only in DM.
Step 7: Follow up with everyone else
The day after the announcement, the people who entered are your warmest audience. Post a story for them — “Didn't win? Your 10% code is still valid till Friday” — and set up a story reply automation so anyone who replies “CODE” gets it in DM. Story formats that work for this are in story ideas that get DM replies.
What automation shouldn't do in a giveaway
- Choose the winner for you, or announce results automatically.
- Handle complaints like “I entered but wasn't picked, this is fake” — reply to those yourself, calmly, from the shared inbox.
- Message people who didn't take part. Only commenters get DMs.
